A journey to the first church ever built in Egypt and in Africa, the cradle of Christianity in Egypt. Join us on a spiritual experience to take in Bokalia Church and Saint Catherine’s Cathedral, the burial place of King Victor Emmanuel, as well as other cathedral and churches in Alexandria, Rosetta, and the monasteries of the Marble city.
We’ll embark on our journey from Mariout, the city of rustic and Bedouin medley, to surveil the history of the Marble city and the context of its construction, together with a spiritual experience at the Jesuit Center and an authentic Bedouin experience at a Bedouin tent, where you’ll dive into their simple, amazing life, as they tell folkloric stories on a sailing boat on the scenic Mariout Lake. You’ll also uncover the monumental area of Marmina, with a new adventure among fishermen, sharing their fulfilling fishing activities and celebrating their fresh sea catch.
On the pathway of spirituality, you’ll visit the second oldest church in Egypt, in the river mouth city of Rosetta for a unique spiritual journey, while tracing the history of the early Christians who lived on the river banks in the same region around the captivating Edku Lake.
Another highlight of the journey is a visit to the Bokalia Church, the first church in Africa; amble through the grave yards of Saint Markos and the Apostles and wander at the classical heritage of the Greek poet Cavafy, as you tour his house, which was turned into a museum in Alexandria. You’ll also immerse yourself into the historic streets of Alexandria on the way to the Greek Church and Saint Catherine’s Cathedral, the burial place of the last Italian king, Victor Emmanuel. Perhaps you push your limits off a bit for an extra dose of a mind-blowing adventure if you join us in a diving mission to explore the secrets of the remains and ruins of the submerged city in the eastern port of Alexandria.
